SSDP@UH Update

I know it doesn’t seem like SSDP@UH has been doing a lot this semester, but it’s all happening behind the scenes right now.

I have been working on getting as much information as I can about the UH Drug and Alcohol Abuse Policy and should have everything I need by next week. Then we can start figuring out what the best way is to get changes to the policy implemented. I will give everyone more details as things move along a little more. It depends on how we plan on advocating for the changes on whether or not I need obvious member support.

For the HB 2391 Campaign, I have been in contact with Nathan Miller from the Marijuana Policy Project for some time now. We are formulating a plan for how to get the provisions of HB 2391 implemented statewide, and specifically in Harris County. Again once everything is in order and we have a definitive plan, I will notify all of you. I can say for sure I will want everybody’s help on this.

Also, we have been working on plans for next semester and how to make SSDP@UH a large, noticeable group on campus. If ANYONE wants to help out with this aspect of the group please let me know. Some initial ideas are educational meetings about drugs, showings of drug war related movies, hosting speakers from groups such as Law Enforcement Against Prohibition, etc. The more ideas we have the better. We plan on using time over the summer to plan out most of the events, and be ready to go in the fall.

It’d be great if I got feedback from everybody on what they think. It will take a lot of people to effectively end the War on Drugs and create a drug policy that actually works. So post a comment on here, or send me email me and let me know what you think: uhssdp@gmail.com.
